Just to make the rest of us who don’t have a full-time staff and sparkling clean garage with all the tools you need to finish the build feel like a bunch of slow-pokes…Factory Five is just finishing up their 30-Day 818R Build Challenge. Of course, they’re not doing this to make the rest of us feel like losers, but they are doing it to race the thing in next week’s Ultimate Track Car Challenge at the Virginia International Raceway! Good luck guys, it’s looking sweet and ready to race…show’em what an 818 can do on the track!!!
Mike is now working with the brake lines. He purchased a new brake flaring tool, 50 feet of stainless steel brake tubing, and stainless steel flared ends. These will be used to fix the front brake lines that have already been run, but currently leak, as well as for the rear brakes and clutch. He has found that the brake tubing is difficult to manipulate even with the flaring tool, so it’s still a work in progress.
Mike decided to upgrade the plastic brake/clutch reservoirs to a fancy new chrome (big surprise) triple reservoir unit from Scott’s Hotrods. He had to mount it to the top front frame, a short distance from the brake/clutch cylinders, so he’ll need to add new fluid lines to connect them together. He had a little concern that it would touch the top of the hood since it sits so high up, but he checked it out and there’s enough clearance, so we’re good to go!
